A Call to Compassion and Action
Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica with the full force of a Category 5 storm, its winds roaring at more than 160 miles per hour. It brought with it relentless rain, catastrophic flooding, and widespread destruction that has left much of our beloved island reeling. Entire communities in St. Elizabeth have been submerged. Homes have been swept away, farmlands destroyed, and lives uprooted. Power lines are down, roads are impassable, and communication has been severed in many areas. Families are cut off, and thousands are now in urgent need of shelter, food, clean water, and hope.
Our Response as a Kingdom Community
At Ebenezer Urban Ministry Center (EUMC), we believe that compassion must move beyond emotion and into action. In partnership with local churches, agencies, and trusted relief organizations, we have activated the EUMC Hand of Hope - Jamaican Relief Effort.
This effort is more than a response; it is a reflection of our faith in action and our commitment to be the hands and feet of Jesus in this critical hour.
Guided by our vision to Liberate, Inspire, Fortify, and Empower communities, our mission is clear: To deliver immediate relief, enable rapid recovery, and rebuild stronger, more resilient communities throughout Jamaica. We will mobilize resources, coordinate aid distribution, and walk alongside families as they rebuild their lives. Together, we will transform tragedy into testimony.
The scope of devastation from Hurricane Melissa is widespread, but certain regions and sectors require immediate, concentrated assistance:
These areas stand at the forefront of EUMC’s relief and rebuilding mission as we work to restore stability, security, and hope across Jamaica.
